228. Your favorite snacks

Snacks are great.  I have some specific snacks that are my “go-to” when I feel the need to give myself a treat.  Now that we are eating a mostly keto/low carb diet, I don’t get to have most of my favorite snacks anymore.  There are a few snacks that I will never give up and even if I can only have them on very special occasions, I will continue to treat myself every now and then

One of the snacks that I used to eat all of the time was cheeze its with Lay’s ranch dip. I could eat half a box of cheese its in one sitting as long as I have the ranch dip to go with it.  There is one particular snack that I always crave when I do not feel well.  It started when I was a teenager.  One time I had an upset stomach and just didn’t feel good.  My dad went to McDonald’s and got me a McDonald’s chocolate milkshake and an order of fries.  After I ate it, I felt better.  Ever since that day, I have always craved this whenever I didn’t feel well.



Now that I am trying to eat more of a low carb / lazy keto diet, I have gravitated towards other favorite snacks.  Almost daily I eat turkey sticks and macadamia nuts.  I think it’s safe to say that I have become addicted to macadamia nuts since we started eating low carb.  Another one of my favorite keto friendly “go-to” snacks has been Quest Protein bars.  I heard a lot about these when we first started this diet, but it took us a while before we tried one.  I bought one and tried it and it was just okay.  Then I watched a YouTube video that showed someone taking a Quest Bar and microwaving it until it got nice and warm and soft.  HOLY COW!!!  It was like eating a freshly baked cookie.  My favorite is the cookies and cream flavor.

I know that snacking is actually not good when you are trying to lose weight.  You should just stick to your regular meals, but let’s face it, sometimes a gal just needs a snack.  And when I do.. these are the things I reach for.
